Landmark Graphics Releases GeoGraphix DISCOVERY 2000.3; An Integrated PC-Based Geological and Geophysical Interpretation Solution for Petroleum Geoscientists

DALLAS, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2001--Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL), today announced the release of GeoGraphix DISCOVERY(TM) 2000.3, an integrated PC-based geological and geophysical interpretation solution for the petroleum geoscientist. This release establishes a shared database for the entire GeoGraphix suite of products, including GESXplorer, Prizm, SeisVision(R) and LogM to simplify data management and workflow efficiency.

An essential part of DISCOVERY evolution as a complete reservoir characterization system, the 2000.3 release incorporates new tools and templates that store measured and interpreted data in a common location, accessible by any geologist, geophysicist or petroleum engineer working on a project.

With simplified data importing and data management built into this version, the 2000.3 release includes the first phase of DISCOVERY complex zone analysis capabilities. The new "ZoneManager" tool exploits the system's shared data model by providing qualitative prediction capabilities for use in any identified area of interest. Geoscientists can now easily cross correlate data and zone attributes across disciplines to detect even subtle relationships that can be used to project attributes away from the wellbore. This allows users to predict properties at the next well location for reservoir simulation, risk analysis or field studies.

"By integrating geologic and seismic interpretations into a single workflow environment, our customers can utilize well data to constrain seismic data and increase the reliability and robustness of their final interpretations," said John Gibson, Landmark's president and CEO. "This release is an example of our commitment to develop best-of-breed products across the entire spectrum of price points for the G&G workplace."

In addition to DISCOVERY new data integration and statistical analysis tools, 2000.3 also features the functional integration of LogM geophysical modeling tools. These tools, designed primarily for stratigraphic plays, allow geoscientists to tie together and test geophysical interpretation with geological hypotheses, building confidence in their interpretation's integrity. Users can quickly see how zones respond seismically as attributes are altered, allowing the geoscientist to verify the geologic framework on their seismic data.

The 2000.3 release also includes a wide range of new tools specifically developed based on customer input and design. These new modules incorporate new functionality for all of the DISCOVERY components and include, among others, thematic mapping presentations, a new petrophysical math engine, 3-D seismic interpretation autopicking and volumetrics functionality that enables users to calculate oil and gas in place for estimating recoverable hydrocarbon reserves. In addition, new line balancing and 2-D attribute extraction functionality have been added to the DISCOVERY seismic interpretation system, SeisVision. This capability gives geoscientists a method for preparing 2-D lines for analysis, including unifying seismic data interpretation, by normalizing phase, frequency and time. Users can view their legacy 2-D data from a perspective never taken before.

"The substantial depth of this release is an example of Landmark's commitment to our development of best-of-breed PC-based interpretation solutions for the mainstream geoscientist," said Rick Slack, vice president, GeoGraphix. "The 2000.3 release is an example of how our data integration activities, coupled with our adherence to Microsoft's solution development allows us to build and test quality, robust software in shorter time frames."
