Halliburton Employee Named Nation's Top Walker for March of Dimes; Adel Tawfik Personally Raised More Than $116,000 to Help Fight Premature Births

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 2004--Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) confirmed today that Adel Tawfik, department manager for KBR's worldwide engineering resource pool, was named by the March of Dimes as the nation's Top Walker for 2004. Tawfik personally raised $116,216 to help the March of Dimes continue its 65-year history of lifesaving research, innovative programs, and dedicated volunteers who have saved millions of babies from death and disability. KBR is the engineering, construction and services subsidiary of Halliburton.

"We're extremely proud of Adel and his fundraising efforts," said Dave Lesar, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Halliburton. "Adel exemplifies the true Halliburton spirit and dedication of helping others and we couldn't be happier to have a Halliburton employee lead the nation in the fight against premature births."

"This is a great surprise," exclaimed Tawfik. "I'm honored to be named the Top Walker, but I'm most thrilled about the money raised to help the March of Dimes in its research. Anyone who knows the right thing to do and doesn't do it is doing something wrong."

Tawfik, a 30-year Halliburton employee, dedicates his personal and professional life to helping wherever he can -- especially in the fight against premature births. Tawfik and his wife, Sara, were personally touched by the tragedy of premature birth in 1979. The Tawfik's first-born, Peter Andrew, arrived two months early and lived just four days. "It was a shifting point," says Tawfik. "After spending three days with high hopes and dreams for the future, our world suddenly changed. I knew then that it was time to trust my faith and commit myself to helping others, with the dream that we would be blessed with other children."

The Tawfik's dreams turned to reality with the birth of Justin in 1982 and Sally in 1985 -- both healthy adults who currently study medicine and music, respectively.

Originally from Egypt, Tawfik has lived in the Houston area since 1972. He earned a Master's of Science degree from Rice University in 1974 and joined Brown & Root the same year. Tawfik has worked on global engineering projects in the United States, Jakarta, Singapore, Brazil, Korea and Azerbaijan.
