Landmark Graphics Awarded $32M Data Management Contract; PetroChina to implement Landmark's Information Management System across organization

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2004--Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) announced today that its Landmark Division has been awarded a three-year, $32 million, data management contract by PetroChina Company Limited. As part of the contract, Landmark will implement a fully integrated, multi-tiered information management system that will support the full data life cycle of PetroChina's oil and gas data.

"This is the biggest E&P information technology project in the history of PetroChina. We chose Landmark Graphics as our partner as we are confident that with its expertise and experience, they will deliver a state-of-the-art solution for us as they have done world-wide," said Liu Xijian, general manager, Science, Technology & Information Management Department of PetroChina Company Limited. "This is a critical component in our information management strategy and we are keen to work with a long-term partner like Landmark who is committed as we are to the success of this important endeavor."

Deploying the latest data management technology, this system is intended to lower business and operations costs while boosting economic efficiency. Landmark will help create a collaborative working environment for PetroChina's exploration and production branch companies and their affiliated oilfield companies through an enterprise-wide standard, secure, and integrated information management system.

"This contract is an excellent example of the great partnerships that result from global organizations like Landmark and PetroChina working to leverage advanced technology," said Peter Bernard, president, Landmark. "The Asia Pacific region is very important to Landmark and this contract furthers our commitment to expanding our presence in China providing not only technology but a complete in sourced service solution."

A key component of this project is expanding PetroChina's data management integration staff to support engineering and operations. Today's high-cost operational environment requires efficient decision-making capabilities from drilling and production disciplines. Landmark will help PetroChina achieve this by implementing a tightly integrated operations and engineering platform which integrates drilling and production tasks, along with geoscience information. Landmark is leveraging expertise in process and technology deployment as well as experience in geoscience integration to provide decision-making efficiencies that can help reduce costs.
