Lost: Perforating Gun Containing High Explosives; $1,000 Reward for Return

FARMINGTON, N.M., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A Halliburton Energy Services field crew returning from a well site in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico lost a Select Fire Jet Perforating Gun off the back of a company pick-up. The field crew, stationed in Farmington, New Mexico, believes the Perforating Gun was lost on a 28-mile section of road called Rosa Road. Persons in that vicinity should be alert to the possible presence of the item there.

Select Fire Perforating Guns are used to perforate oil and gas wells. The perforating gun is a steel tubular housing, 3 1/8 inches in diameter by about 7 feet long. It contains high explosive components in the form of shaped charges, detonating cord, and detonators. The 10-shaped charges in the perforating gun, when detonated, focus their energy in one direction and are used to penetrate the steel casing and cement in oil and gas wells. Although the gun is believed to be stable, the device must not be handled by untrained personnel.

Halliburton personnel are conducting an intensive search to find the gun, walking the entire distance of the road where it is believed to have been lost.

Anyone finding this device should contact Halliburton Energy Services at 800-666-9260 or local law enforcement. Please do not attempt to move or handle the item. Halliburton is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the return of the device. SOURCE Halliburton Energy Services
